Period 5: 4/12/13

Period 5

Please write a well constructed response to the following for a homework grade:

After viewing a portion of the movie The Help, how is the movie different from the book?  Do the changes fit well with the story line or do you prefer the book the way it was written?
If you had a major role in creating the movie, how would you have transformed the book to come to life?

  1. The movie "The Help" is different from the book in several ways. One way it is different is the point where the story starts. In the book, there is more background and characters are shown before the plot started. In the movie, the plot happened immediately. I think the changes fit well because it made the movie more interesting. If I had a major role in the movie, I would have tried to make the book more entertaining and exciting than the book.

  2. The movie the help was in some ways different from the book but was also in some ways the same. The film was very close to the book but skipped some chapters here and there. for example the first couple of chapters were skipped, but other than that what we saw was spot on. -Ben b

  3. The movie was different from the book because it moved quicker. The movie went straight into the lunch. I personally prefer the book because it has more detail. If I had major role in the movie I would put more emphasis on what Skeeter's mother considers Skeeter's flaws.

  4. The movie was different from the book because the movie started a few chapters in from the book. I prefer the book mainly because the book was more in depth and detail than the movie was. The characters were the same as the book as far as names go however i imagined them to look differently from what was shown in the movie. If i had a major role in the movie i would have started them both from the beginning and not have started the movie skipping chapters in the beginning. As the movie progrssed the chapters basically lined up. -Mollie Foster

  5. After viewing a portion of the movie the movie is different from the book. I prefer the book over the movie because there is not as many details in the movie as the book was. The movie cut out a few chapters in the beginning that the book included. I feel as though the actors and actress' in the movie were not how I pictured them to be in the movie. I pictured Hilly to be fancier and prettier since she ran the show. I didnt picture Abileen how she looked in the movie either. I pictured Skeeter to have shorter, frizzer hair and in the movie Celia did not look cheesy to me like they described her in the book. If I had a major role in creating the movie I would have included all the details and not skip to where Mae Mobley uses Aibleen's bathroom. They missed out on all of the chapters before that. That shortened a lot of the details in the book in the movie. To me, I prefer the book over the movie. -Alexia

  6. Movies are always different from books. The book had more background information, to give a better scene. The movie just jumps right into a scene. It's hard to decipher what is going on. The biggest difference between the book The Help and the movie was the characters. I portrayed them to look differently than they did in the movie. I imagined Aibileen to be a plump women with a little bun on her head like an old fashioned maid. In my head I thought skeeter had dark, really big frizzy hair. All of the characters, Hilly, Elizabeth, Skeeter, appear differently in the movie. I prefer the book because I like my images and I don't like the way the movie portrays the book.

The movie "The Help" is different from the book in a few ways. The characters in the book seem different than the characters in the movie. Also in the book each chapter is set up by the point of view of an individual character, but in the movie it is one view of all the characters. Lastly, in the begininng of the book the narator describes each character, but in the movie it jumps right into the story. I prefer the way the story is written because it is more detailed than the movie.

If I had a major role in creating the movie then I would have changed a few things. The first thing I would have done was I would of described each character and their background so people watching would not be confused. The next thing I would of done was space out the beginning of the movie just like the book. Lastly, I would of followed the exact story so it would not have any major differences.
